It’s Always Busy at AIS
At the time of writing we’re busy preparing for what I am sure will be a very successful International Day. Thank you to everyone who has helped prepare for the event - parents and students running stalls, teachers rehearsing with students for performances, Ibu Caroline, our Maintenance, IT & Facilities Teams, plus our organising teacher group - Mr Jon, Ms Aditi, Ms Karlina & Mr Anand.
Next week will be a busy one with school photos, ANBK Assessments for our Year 11 Indonesian students, ICAS Writing Test (Yr 4-10), Australian Maths Competition and International Chemistry Quiz for the students who have registered. We also have High School and Primary School assemblies, a workshop for the lead cast of Mary Poppins Jr and the Primary PAWS CCA students heading off to PAWPPY vet clinic.
On top of all of these exciting opportunities, there will no doubt be lots of high quality teaching and learning taking place in our classrooms and other learning spaces.
Whole School Photo
In addition to our scheduled school photos on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th August (see details below for how to pre-order), we will be taking a whole school photo at 8:00am on Tuesday 5th August.
All students and academic staff will gather on the small field and form the letters ‘AIS’ for an aerial photo and video captured by drone.
To ensure a smooth process, all students and staff will meet in the MPC at 7:50am, before moving outside for the photo. This image will be featured in our Yearbook, and we will also share a copy with all members of the school community.
We kindly ask all parents to avoid the canteen and small field area during this time to help us organise over 550 people efficiently and avoid accidental photo-bombing.
Thank you for your understanding and support!
Alumni Achievements
We’re excited to share some wonderful news — Isabel Tramp, one of our alumni from the Class of 2023, has been crowned None Jakarta Selatan 2025 in the prestigious Abang None Jakarta competition!
This competition is a well-known regional event, similar in spirit to Miss Universe, but it celebrates not only beauty, but also talent, intelligence, and character. Isabel truly shone on stage — her performance was stunning, and her eloquent answers to the judges' questions left the audience in awe.
Isabel will soon represent South Jakarta in the Abang None Jakarta finals, and she will need our support. We will share the voting link as soon as we receive it from her.
Many past winners of this competition have gone on to become successful public figures, celebrities, or have held influential positions in institutions across Indonesia.
Congratulations, Isabel! We’re so proud of you!
Last weekend, another of our 2022 graduates Emma Sukerta was invited to speak as a panelist at Indonesia’s Net Zero Summit, hosted by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) — the largest foreign policy organization in Southeast Asia. She had the incredible opportunity to share the stage with leaders such as Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), along with the governors of Jakarta, Bali, and Kalimantan Timur, and many other influential voices in climate change and government.
In other exciting news, Emma has recently been invited to join OceanX as a digital correspondent. OceanX is home to the most advanced ocean research vessel in the world, combining science, technology, and media to explore and protect the ocean. She was selected from thousands of applicants to become one of 14 Young Explorers for their fifth expedition, which took place in Indonesia last year. She had been invited back for their upcoming expedition this September.
This journey will take Emma from Mayotte (in the Mozambique Channel) all the way to Singapore, as part of OceanX’s global effort to explore uncharted waters and support marine conservation through cutting-edge research and storytelling.
Staff Achievements
We’re thrilled to share that Ms. Flo from the Primary Music Team recently returned from a memorable performance tour in Europe! From July 11–21, Ms. Flo, along with the Indonesian Children and Youth Choir – Cordana (ICYC Cordana), represented Indonesia on an international stage.
Their journey began in Frankfurt, Germany, where they were specially invited by JKI Frankfurt to perform in the Legacy Concert. From there, they traveled to Vienna, Austria, to participate in the prestigious 14th World Peace Choral Festival. ICYC Cordana was the only choir from Indonesia at the festival, joining other talented choirs from across Europe and Asia.
Turn Your Unused Clothes into a Brighter Future - EXTENDED
Ibu Atiek has organised our school to take part in a Clothes Drive for one of the local shelters, Yayasan Gemilang Indonesia. This yayasan supports underprivileged children and teenagers to make a real difference in their lives through education. We’ve had such a good response from our families that we will extend the programme for one more week until Friday 8th August.
This is a meaningful opportunity to give back. Donated clothes will be sold at affordable prices, and all proceeds will support the shelter’s daily operations, providing essential life skills and informal education to children who are not currently enrolled in school. The shelter also serves as a safe and nurturing learning center for these young individuals.
If you have gently used clothes or other unused items tucked away in your wardrobe or storage, we warmly encourage you to donate them. Drop boxes have been placed outside the main entrance to both the South & North Campus buildings.
