Principal's Message, 19 September 2025

19 Sep 2025

It has certainly been a busy week at AIS as we wrap up Term 3. Congratulations to all of our students who took part in the High School and Primary School Athletics Carnivals. It was wonderful to see so many students giving their best, showing great sportsmanship, and encouraging their peers throughout the events.

A special congratulations goes to Garuda House, who were crowned the High School Athletics House Champions. Their determination and teamwork were on full display throughout the competition.

Thank you also to Mr Hector and Ms Tantri for leading the High School event, and to Mr Patrick and Mr Amran for coordinating the Primary School carnival. Both days were organised brilliantly, with a wide range of activities that ensured every student had the opportunity to participate and enjoy the experience.

A number of students from Primary and High School participated in the ICAS English Test, Science Test & Spelling Bee this week. Thank you to Ms Sinead for coordinating all of the ICAS assessments.

Congratulations to Emil, Nicole, Michelle, and Annisa on the success of their IB Diploma Art Exhibition. The students have worked incredibly hard to produce a collection of outstanding art pieces, showcasing both creativity and technical skill.

Throughout the exhibition, they spoke with confidence about their work to staff, and students from upper Primary through to High School, explaining the inspirations behind their pieces and the processes involved in their creation. It was a pleasure to hear directly from them about their artistic journeys.

Special thanks go to Mr Tal and Ms Aldevi for their guidance and support of the students in preparing for this milestone event.

I had the privilege of attending the AIS Bali Primary School production of Matilda Jr. on Wednesday evening. It was wonderful to see the students working so hard to deliver such a terrific performance, which was thoroughly enjoyed by parents and all members of the audience.

As someone who has always enjoyed musical theatre, it was a real pleasure to finish the term with two fantastic productions — Mary Poppins Jr. in Jakarta and Matilda Jr. in Bali.

Australian actor and Emmy Award winner Ben Mendelsohn visited AIS on Thursday. Ben, whose nieces Maya, Genevieve and Amelie attend AIS, visited to speak with their classes. He spent an hour with our Year 5 and 6 students, as well as the lead cast of Mary Poppins Jr., sharing insights about his career and the craft of acting. He then joined our Foundation students to read Room on the Broom.

Ben extended his visit, to speak with our Year 11 Film and Media students — joined by many Year 11 and 12 classmates — for an additional hour. While he has been acting for more than 40 years, students (and some staff) were especially excited to hear about his work as Director Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and as Talos in Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion.

I hope that all of our AIS Community has a great holiday whether you are staying in Jakarta, exploring further afield in Indonesia or traveling overseas.

We’ll see all students back on Monday 6th October.
