School Holidays
Today marks the last day of Term 3 / Semester 1. I hope that all students, families, and staff enjoy a well-deserved break, taking time to recharge and spend quality time with friends and loved ones. I know our Year 12 students will be busy preparing for their mock exams, and I hope they’re able to strike a healthy balance between study and rest.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to a successful first semester at AIS.
Staff will return for a Teacher Planning Day on Monday, 14 July. We will also host an Orientation Day for new staff and students. All students will return to school on Tuesday, 15 July.
We currently have a large amount of unlabelled lost property at the front of the school. Please take a moment to check for any items your children may have misplaced.
School Camps
This week was busy with 5 camps ranging from Sentul and Yogyakarta to Bali, Lombok, Sulawesi and Vietnam. I have enjoyed hearing from the students and seeing photos & videos (my favourite was of an orangutan enjoying some school fruit). I want to send a huge thank you to all staff that attended all camps over the last two weeks, for the parents for trusting their children with us and to all students that attended and the camp providers that we worked with. A special thanks to the staff at school who worked so hard in the planning of the camps too.
I will begin collecting feedback from students, staff and parents about our camps when we return in Term 3 so we can look at what worked, what didn’t work, what we can do better to inform our planning for 2026.
Mr David Jolly
At the end of this term, we will be farewelling Mr David Jolly, one of our valued High School Maths and Science teachers. Mr David joined AIS in 2024 and has contributed significantly, particularly in leading our Year 7 & 8 STEM program in 2025. We thank Mr David for his dedication and wish him every success in his future endeavours.
Dr Dean Shippy
At the end of this term, we will be bidding farewell to Dr Dean Shippy, our Head of Mathematics and IB Diploma Physics teacher. Dr Dean has been an integral part of the AIS Jakarta team for the past seven years, and his departure marks the end of a truly impactful chapter in our school’s journey. Due to visa restrictions related to age, Dr Dean is unfortunately unable to continue with us. While this is a loss for our community, we remain deeply grateful for the dedication and leadership he has shown throughout his time at AIS. In addition to leading the Mathematics department, Dr Dean also served as Head of Science, guiding both teams in collaborative planning, refining pedagogy, and enhancing student learning.
Ms Madison McNair
Ms Madison, has made the decision not to return to AIS for Semester 2 due to family reasons. While we are sorry to see her leave, we fully respect and support her decision. During her time at AIS, Ms Madison has taken on the significant role of Director of Student Support Services, overseeing programs from Preschool to Year 12 across both our Jakarta and Bali campuses. Under her leadership, we have seen meaningful improvements in our support practices. She has also managed a team of over 30 Teaching and Learning Assistants, ensuring quality support for as many students and their families. I would like to thank Ms Madison for her dedication to our students, her collaboration with, and leadership of staff and the valuable contribution she has made to the broader AIS community.
Ms Lisa Christine
I would also like to acknowledge the departure of Ms Lisa Christine, a TLA who has worked in our Primary School for the past 16 and a half years. Ms Lisa will return to Perth to be closer to her family. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Ms Lisa when teaching and appreciate the great support she gives to our students to support their learning. She has been a valued colleague and friend to all and will be greatly missed.
New Teachers
I will share details and biographies of incoming teachers in my Term 3 Welcome Back letter which will be sent at the end of the holidays
International Day
We are excited to announce that AIS Jakarta will host International Day on Friday, 1 August 2025, from 12:00 to 3:00pm.
A highlight of this event is always the parent-run country stalls, which many of you will remember from previous years. These stalls celebrate the cultural diversity of our community and have included individual country displays as well as collaborative stalls representing regions with smaller student numbers (for example, South American countries teamed up last year).
Stalls typically feature traditional food, games, craft activities, cultural displays, and more.
If you are interested in leading the organisation of a country or regional stall, please register your interest using the link below. You can begin planning what you’d like to share or display at your stall. I will meet with lead parents for each stall on Tuesday, 15 July at 2:00 PM to support your planning and compile a list of school resources needed (tables, screens, power boards, etc.)
We only have interest registered for 3 stalls so far (Thank you Indonesia, Korea & Japan). We need a few more stalls to ensure that our day can go ahead. If you have any questions about this, please email me (craig.eldred@ais-indonesia.com) or come along on the meeting on 15 July
