Principal's Message, 14 February 2025

14 Feb 2025

It is wonderful to see the positive start to the school year that has been made by all student and teachers. The classrooms and other learning spaces are buzzing with high quality teaching and learning happening. Teachers participated in training with Mr Daniel O'Loughlin from the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) during the week. They worked on analysing the data from the Progressive Achievement Adaptive Tests (PAT) that students from Years 1 - 10 sat last week. They are now using the assessment data to guide further teaching to support increased student achievement. This work will further build on the work we did with Dr Selina Fisk at the AIS Teacher Conference last month.

PnF Meeting & Annual General Meeting

Our Parents and Friends (PnF) Association will hold their first meeting at 8:00am on Thursday 20th February. This will be a chance for our new and returning parents to receive updates from our PnF Executive and Principal.  We will also explain the process for voting for our PnF Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will take place on Thursday 13th March

IB DP Results

We’re pleased to share our results from the 2024 Graduating Class. With a DP Pass Rate of 90%, and an overall score more than 2 points above the global average, we’re continuing to build a strong academic programme to support our students. Congratulations, Class of 2024!

DP Evaluation Report

Over the course of last year, the IB, in conjunction with our staff, conducted a full review of our Diploma Programme. The evaluation team was very complimentary of many facets of the programme, and of AIS.

Our ongoing commitment to inclusivity and well-being were commended as strengths, as were the numerous opportunities to explore international mindedness through in class activities as well as experiences beyond the academic curriculum.

We have also been given areas for improvement which will guide the work we do as a staff this year. Developing stronger curricular links between subjects and looking to integrate Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) more organically into all classes will be a focus.

AED & Ambulance

AIS Jakarta took delivery of its third Automated External Defibrillator (AED) last week. An EADis a lightweight, portable device. It delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart when it detects an abnormal rhythm and changes the rhythm back to normal. Source https://www.heart.org/. We have one on the ground floor and one on the 3rd floor of the South Campus / No 68 and one on the ground floor of the North Campus / No 69.

The AIS Board also provided AIS Jakarta with a new ambulance vehicle to replace the old van we used for this purpose. It is equipped with an ambulance stretcher, scoop stretcher, oxygen tank and first aid bag. This vehicle will be used for transporting students or staff requiring medical attention that cannot be provided by Nurse Anti at the school.

Beyond the Bustle

Mr Bill Lloyd, Managing Director of Asian Tigers Indonesia will present ‘Beyond the Bustle - Unleashing the Best Leisure Escapes in and Around Jakarta’. This presentation will be great for new parents and teachers so they can get an idea of the great opportunities in the region.
