Welcome Back to the 2026 Academic Year

Our first week back at AIS Jakarta has been nothing short of outstanding with students meeting new class mates and teachers. We have been focusing on building those all-important routines so valuable for illustrating our potential best. This week we have welcomed 70 new students and families to our learning community. Our Year 11 students will today be concluding their IB Diploma Retreat in Bogor, a great way to start the challenges that lay ahead for them.

AIS Teacher Conference

Last Thursday 22 and Friday 23 January the teachers from AIS Bali and Jakarta came together for the 2026 AIS Teachers Conference. Our guest presenter this year was Dr Mark Williams, Neuroscientist and Author. Mark is committed to creating a ‘brain healthy world’. Dr Mark’s keynotes were both insightful, and challenging, leaving a lasting impression on how AIS will continue to develop its teaching, learning and instruction to ensure the best possible outcomes for our life-long learners.

In addition, our teachers worked collaboratively on planning for 2026 and participated in a range of collegial led workshops where the teachers from the two campuses led workshops for their peers in areas of expertise and interest. Our small band of new teachers participated in a workshop on Saturday as well on our all-important child protection curriculum and student-centered learning strategy.

AIS iSmart Parent Portal – Canteen Reminders

Big thank you to all our parents who are now using our new AIS iSmart Parent Portal. We do hope you are finding it useful. Just another reminder that students will need to come to the canteen with their student ID cards topped up with e-money so they can purchase items. As always, we encourage pre-ordering to avoid cues and prevent waiting time.

Student Leadership in 2026

We are, in 2026, shifting to a more innovative student leadership structure that blends traditions with challenge and increased opportunity for our young adults across both  sub-schools to explore their leadership skills and potential. Ms Sinead (for Primary) and myself (for High) will be lead mentors for our student leadership programs. A key innovation is introducing ministries that will directly involve our Year 6 and 10 students. The ministries will link to our core values and strategic pillars building their profile in our learning community. Primary and High School Captains will remain with two in each sub-school. They will play a pivotal role in leading key events and our Student Representative Council (SRC), the voice of our broader student body. We are excited to see what our young people can learn and achieve in 2026!

ACER PAT Tests 2026

Next week Foundation through to our Year 10 students will participate in the 2026 Term 1 ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests) Assessments. The ACER PAT are a series of assessments designed to measure and track students' academic progress in key areas like reading, mathematics, and general ability. These tests provide valuable insights into a student’s strengths and areas for improvement, offering a clear picture of their learning development over time. The PAT assessments are age-appropriate, adaptive, and help identify individual learning needs, assisting teachers in tailoring instruction.

Just to explain a bit about the tests. They are ‘adaptive’ assessments that adjust the difficulty of questions based on a student's responses. If a student answers correctly, the test presents more challenging questions, and if a student answers incorrectly, the test offers easier questions. This approach ensures that each student is tested at the right level for their current abilities, providing a more accurate measure of their knowledge and skills.

As professional educators this information is priceless. We will use the data obtained to inform our planning and teaching pedagogy to ensure the best possible approaches for your child(ren).

Lanyards

We have redesigned our community lanyards. For our duty of care to our young people we ask that all members of our community wear the necessary lanyard clearly visible.
