Year 12 Camp to Vietnam
On the 20th of April, the Year 12s embarked on six days of adventure and excitement in Vietnam. They sampled a taste of history and the infamous Vietnam War when they visited the Cu Chi tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City, and the War Remnants museum. It was a very sobering and educational experience.
On arrival in the Central Vietnamese city of Da Nang, clad mostly in shorts and t-shirts, they were startled by the unexpectedly cold, coastal winds that hit while visiting China beach – the hangout of American G.I.s in the war.
Though the boat trip was cancelled on both days they got the opportunity to interact with the locals and experience true Vietnamese lifestyles by taking a fun and interactive cooking course at a local restaurant and participating in Ms. Anna’s ‘Amazing Race’ around the town of Hoi An.
Hoi An is famous for having clothes made and so it was no surprise that almost everyone travelled home with extra baggage! They also returned with expanded bellies from the abundant array of delicious Vietnamese food.
Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable and truly memorable trip and will definitely be a highlight of the year for all.
