Leadership Takes Spirit

On Friday, February 18, four Year 6 students were inducted into their leadership roles as School and Vice Captains for 2011. In front of the school assembly, Dr. Chris presented them with their badges which were pinned on by their parents. At assembly on Friday, February 25 eight more students will be inducted as into their roles as House Captains.

Prior to this, all Year 6 students participated in a leadership program that introduced them to the skills and qualities required to be an effective leader. They researched inspiring leaders ,both past and present; participated in a challenge that required them to work together as a team; and wrote a commitment statement about how they would carry out their leadership in 2011.

Following this each student nominated for either a School or House Captain position. They prepared a speech about why they would make a suitable candidate and delivered these to students from Year 3-6. The student body then voted for the candidates they thought would best carry out the various roles.

This year all students in Year 6 will be called upon to demonstrate leadership in a variety of ways and for a variety of purposes. However, the emphasis will always be that they demonstrate a true spirit of leadership.
