AIS-Balikpapan “Australiana” Concert
Last week the teachers and students of AIS-Balikpapan combined to present a memorable and at time nostalgic mixture of song and drama designed to make even the most seasoned expatriate misty-eyed and a little homesick. In front of a wonderful bush background featuring gum trees and Uluru kids of all ages belted out iconic Aussie songs linked together with an imaginative story built around a visiting Sun Bear from Balikpapan.
There were great individual performances but the joy of this evening was to found in the spirit of teamwork and collaboration between the very youngest of children right through to those in their early secondary years. Older students could be seen prompting the shyer littlies or settling the over-excited ones. They encouraged each other and judging by the smiles had a great time together. All of this was hugely appreciated by an enthusiastic audience of parents, friends and special guests who had flown in from Jakarta earlier in the day. The advantages of a smaller and family-friendly school were showcased for all to see and admire.
Congratulations to all involved. The school culture has been nurtured and reinforced in the most entertaining manner imaginable. If this type of performance becomes an essential part of the annual AIS-Balikpapan calendar we may have witnessed the birth of a great tradition.
