Master Plans for new AIS schools
The Yayasan Board has assigned Dull Olsen Weekes Architects (DOWA) based in Portland, Oregon to the task of producing a Master Plan for our new schools to be built in Bali and Jakarta.
The school community consultation process is well underway. In early August Karina Ruiz and John Weekes from DOWA visited both schools to lead discussions and interviews with teachers, students and parents. They also involved Penny Robertson (Chair, Yayasan Board) and other members of the Yayasan Board, Bruce Ferres (Principal) and the Heads of School in an exploration of the links between structural design and our school’s educational philosophy.
We want the new school buildings to enhance our community spirit, family friendly atmosphere and AIS preferred methods of teaching. We are looking for a variety of spaces that support individual learning needs, provide teachers with high quality teaching environments and encourage both social and professional interactions. In summary we would like DOWA to design buildings and spaces that support our school’s prevailing culture and future aspirations.
A Design Committee for Bali and Pejaten Raya met to discuss the facilities required at each phase of development and possible arrangements of all these basic elements on the two sites to be developed. DOWA will continue this work in the months ahead before returning to the school with some preliminary drawings and overall concept designs.
