Fairy Tales & Nursery Rhymes

Fairy Tales & Nursery Rhymes

This term, students in Prep E and Prep H have been learning about fairy tales and nursery rhymes.

It has been fun reading nursery rhymes, finding words that rhyme as well as words beginning with the Letter of the Week. So far, the students have learnt all-time favourites such as Baa Baa Black Sheep, Humpty Dumpty, Hickory Dickory Dock, Three Men in the Tub, Five Little Froggies and Pretty Polly Parrot. Everyone has been very enthusiastic in memorisng the words and can now recite the rhymes without looking in the book. We have also been creating artworks inspired by nursery rhymes. Using techniques such as tearing, cutting, crumpling and pasting, we have created lots of artworks that are now on display in the classrooms.

The fairy tales that students have been learning include Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the Three Billy Goats Gruff, the Gingerbread Man and the Three Little Pigs. They have enjoyed participating in group activities creating story maps, working in role-plays, sequencing stories as well as many other fine motor skill activities. Everyone has had great fun learning about fairy tales, and are especially intrigued when there are different versions of a fairy tale, or when there are different endings!
