Our curriculum has been designed to foster a life-long love of learning.

Our Primary School (Foundation to Year 6) curriculum is currently based on the new Australian Curriculum (English, Mathematics and Science) and AusVELS (all other Learning Areas). Over the next few years we will be converting all Learning Areas to the Australian Curriculum. Designed to foster a life-long love of learning, it is a curriculum that will provide students with a sound foundation for academic life in school and beyond.

Traditional subject areas such as English and Mathematics are high priority learning areas. Skills and concepts developed in these subject areas underpin learning across the entire curriculum. Please click here for A Guide to Primary Curriculum. All AIS curriculum guides are living documents that are subject to revison and change as we strive to provide the best possible guidance for our teachers and the school community.

We believe that an integrated curriculum stimulates creativity, confidence and curiosity in our students and hence, an integrated curriculum approach is used to deliver the content of the above subjects . Major features of integrated learning are its authenticity, relevance, collaborative approach and celebration of success. Over each year of study, each of the above learning areas acts as the host for an extended unit of work. Normally, each unit of work takes about ten weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the work.

Assessment is carried out against standards set by AusVELS and the Australian Curriculum framework. Using this framework of learning outcomes, students and teachers determine individual needs by reviewing and planning learning goals. Teachers are tasked with ensuring that the learning covers a full range in depth of thinking, allowing each student to experience success along with practical application. A written report is provided twice a year.
