AIS Indonesia

  • The study of English is an integral part of the curriculum and our aim is to make our learning stimulating and enjoyable. We strive to foster a lifelong passion for the English language and an appreciation for the ways in which it helps us to understand ourselves, the world and our place in it.

At AIS we follow the Australian Curriculum. The English program from Foundation to Year 10 is organised into three interrelated strands that support students' growing understanding and use of Standard Australian English (English).

Together the three strands focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking and writing.

  • The three strands are:

    Language
    knowing about the English language
    Literature
understanding, appreciating, responding to, analyzing and creating literature
    Literacy
expanding the repertoire of English usage
  • Each of these strands has outcomes targeted at the different developmental stages of student learning and progress is assessed against these outcomes. Our aim is to develop in our students not just the ability to read independently and fluently, but also a passion for reading.

Students write a variety of text types and recognise the purpose of and audience for each one. Our support program focuses on readers who require additional support during the early stages of reading.

In the secondary school, emphasis is placed on developing our students’ creative writing, vocabulary development and critical thinking skills.

The study of literature includes the reading of an assortment of novels, plays and poetry, where students will learn the different literary techniques and interpretation skills.
