Our school began using the ACT Department of Education curriculum at all levels then in 2008 we adopted the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) as our guiding framework from K – 10. In 2010 we began introducing the new Australian Curriculum (AC), a collaborative curriculum initiative supported by all of the Australian States and the Commonwealth Government. This involved an intense period of curriculum development, revision of work units and the purchase of new teaching resources. Considerable efforts were put into re-designing our written reports with a new emphasis on reporting against the expected standards. We now teach AC Mathematics, English, Science and History and will soon transition to completely to the new curriculum.
While we are very proud of the school’s ability to cater for students with learning needs the vast majority of our students are mainstream learners working at the expected standards prescribed by the Australian Curriculum. In fact our primary students do as well, and in many cases far better, than students of the same age in Australia. Our school participates in the Australian nation-wide NAPLAN assessments each year and the results we achieve are outstanding given that many of our students are learning in their second or even third language!
