Introduction of the new Australian Curriculum (AC) 2011-2014 at the Australian International School - Indonesia


General Timeline 2011 - 2014

2011

  • Familiarisation with AC framework;
  • Re-calibrate our Literacy, Numeracy and Science Curriculum;
  • Professional Development for all teachers focused on AC delivery;
  • Inform and educate the school community.
2012
  • Commence teaching English, Mathematics and Science using the AC;
  • Re-calibrate and develop alternative contextualised History content consistent with AC principles;
2013
  • Commence teaching our contextualised History program;
  • Re-calibrate and develop all remaining curriculum areas including Geography, Languages, Technology, Business Studies, Performing and Visual Arts, PE/Health.
2014
  • Full implementation of the Australian Curriculum


Specific Timeline 2012

Term 1 Term 2 Term 3 Term 4

Term 1
Prepare curriculum documentation and booklets outlining the AC topics and learning outcomes for each year level in Mathematics, English and Science.

Begin an examination of the History curriculum and possible adaptations needed for contextual relevance.

Raise awareness amongst all teachers of the need to redesign semester written reports so that they reflect reporting principles and learning outcomes.

Provide primary teachers with professional development on the 5Es approach to the teaching of Science embedded within the Primary Connections Science program.

Gather hard copy of the various written report formats used at each AIS campus and analyse against the reporting criteria specified within the AC.

Term 2
Complete documentation that describes the curriculum to be followed in all non-AC subjects using the AusVELS guidelines.

Complete preparation of the contextualized AC History curriculum in readiness for trialing units of work in Semester 2.

Work through a process with staff at all campuses that seeks to establish agreement on a standard written report format.

Resolve IT issues and challenges connected with the production of standard written report formats.

Term 3
Begin preliminary work on an audit of current Geography units against the new AC Geography curriculum.

Review the implementation of standard written reports after obtaining feedback from teachers and parents.

Trial contextualised History units.

Term 4
Begin preliminary work on an audit of any other subjects against any new AC curriculum areas published in the first half of 2012.
