Pejaten Weekly Bytes

June 17, 2011

Empowering Minds. Uniting Communities.

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Pejaten Performers was a wonderful evening and certainly provided excellent entertainment for the ‘sell out’ audience that attended. Our students are very, very talented!

The food that accompanied it was amazing and there was ample to satisfy everybody. My thanks to our PTG parents for their outstanding contribution and great support of all of our events.

My thanks also to Dr. Yen Tan who provided a lunch box for every one of our 70 performers.

Our Swimming Carnival was also a quality event with some excellent student performances and great House support. Congratulations to Komodo on their win in this event. Their win enabled them to finish the Semester with the highest number of House points and so earn themselves a Mufti Day early in Term 3.

Term 2 is now over and we will then break for a 1 month holiday, returning to school on Tuesday July 19th.

To our families who are leaving us I wish you all the very best with travelling, moving and settling in to your new location and thank you for supporting AIS.

Swimming Carnival
This was the second carnival to be held in the new pool. It was fantastic to see all the students decked out in their House colours, the pool looking great and all the House tents decorated. Everyone was ready for an action packed fun day of swimming.

Traditional swimming races formed most of the day’s program but the novelty events again proved to be a hit especially the “Bomb” event and the “Change of clothes relay”.

There were some outstanding individual performances on the day with the following students all winning age group medals.

  • Boys Year 7/8 Age Champion – Leon
  • Boys Year 9/10 Age Champion – Jack
  • Boys Year 11/12 Age Champion – Tony
  • Girls Year 7/8/9 Age Champion – Nian Yun
  • Girls Year 10/11/12 Age Champion - Tong

Overall House/team results were extremely close and interesting throughout the day but Komodo came from behind to win (608 points) followed by Sempati (565) with Garuda a close 3rd position (539) and Naga just behind them (509).

With regards to new swimming records ………….. well this is fantastic news !!

We had 32 new records set out of the 46 traditional swimming events – this goes to show that having a swimming program embedded in the Physical Education program is working as far as improving student performance in the major swim strokes – also helps having a great Swim Coach/PE assistant in Mr. Arif working with the students!

A big thanks to all students who attended and participated in the events – your efforts and sportsmanship were fantastic. Further thanks to teaching staff for making the day run so smoothly and to all other staff for their assistance in setting up the pool.

(Mr. Rod)

AIS Piranhas Swim Squad
Congratulations to Nian Kee and who were awarded Age Champion Medals at the recent AIS Swimming Squad Championships. A talented duo!
