Welcome to the Australian International School, Balikpapan. Since its inception in late 2007 AIS, Balikpapan has grown into an energetic and enthusiastic community, working together to deliver a quality learning environment
As the new Head of School I am delighted to be working with an excellent program of study, managed and delivered by a dedicated staff to enthusiastic students. What a successful combination!
My goal for AIS, Balikpapan is to offer learning opportunities that are enhanced by the application of an international approach to education. Emphasis on internationalism will allow us to embrace the concept of being responsible citizens of the world community. We have a quality working environment that equips our students with knowledge and skills and to this we will add the values and attributes that will enable our students to participate in and contribute to a culturally, socially and economically vibrant world.
The staff at AIS Balikpapan are compiling a set of values and attributes that will become the foundation of who we are. These values will support the children in their life long quest as learners. In 1993 UNESCO identified four essential pillars of education. Learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be. Learning to live together is at the top of the agenda of debates about the future of education in most parts of the world. Tolerance, empathy and open-mindedness help us understand not only what we have in common with each other but also what our differences are.
Balikpapan is a thriving community and as it grows so does our school. We have had many new families enter through our doors this year and I am very enthusiastic about the future of AIS. I am thrilled to be heading such a vibrant school and I am looking forward to working with this growing community of students, staff and parents.
