Welcome to the Australian International School, Balikpapan. Since its inception in late 2007 AIS Balikpapan has grown into an energetic and enthusiastic community, working together to deliver a quality learning environment.

AIS Balikpapan offers learning opportunities that are enhanced by the application of an international approach to education. Emphasis on internationalism will allow us to embrace the concept of being responsible citizens of the world community. We have a quality working environment that equips our students with knowledge and skills and to this we add the values and attributes that enable our students to participate in and contribute to a culturally, socially and economically vibrant world.

The staff at AIS Balikpapan work with a set of values and attributes that are the foundation of who we are. These values support the children in their life long quest as learners. In 1993 UNESCO identified four essential pillars of education. Learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be. Learning to live together is at the top of the agenda of debates about the future of education in most parts of the world. Tolerance, empathy and open-mindedness help us understand not only what we have in common with each other but also what our differences are.

Balikpapan is a thriving community and it has shown substantial growth since our campus opened. We are keeping up with that growth having opened a Secondary Studies Centre with an innovative idea that balances face-to-face teaching with online learning thereby offering access to a wider range of subjects and study options than would normally be available to students in relatively isolated locations.
