Visual Arts. Primary School, Term 1.


On Term One 2010 the Primary School will be creating a variety of artworks related to their class Topics Of Enquiry. Prep will work on artworks related to the theme: “Look around You”. They will investigate their sorroundings and create artworks which represent the different enviroments and people they are exposed to and in contact with on an everyday basis. Later in the term students will be introduced to a new unit called: “Shapes! They are all around us!”. Year 1 students will concentrate on two-dimensional projects using the theme: “What grows there”. Students will start the term learning about Rainforests and what type of Flora and Fauna lives within them. Following this they will start the creation of: “My Rainforest”, a large format collage using watercolours and pastels. In the latter part of the term, students will be working with clay squares to imprint leaf textured tiles.

Students of Year 2-3will concentrate on two and three-dimensional projects this term using “Recycling” as their main theme. Students will learn about the Primary Colours to create a recycled materials sculpture of a Robot or Space Creatures, using the primary colours to create interesting patterns for their sculpture.

Students of Year 3-4, will concentrate on two and three dimensional projects using “Water” as their main theme throughout most of the term. They will investigate, research and create artwork inspired from water sources such as: oceans, lakes, rivers, rain, waterfalls, etc. A variety of media will be used for these projects.Further in the term students will create a large format collage of “The Water Cycle”. Years 5/6 will produce a variety of artwork through learning to be creative with “Endangered Animals” as their main theme for Term One. Firstly they will investigate and research the illegal smuggling of Endangered Species in and out of different countries around the World. Following this, they will create a metal screen installation which resembles x-ray machines that are able to detect the smuggling of Endangered Species. In the latter part of the Term, the students will concentrate on the creation of an ‘awareness’ collage poster, for an Endangered Animal of their choice.
